Target Group:
People working and living in Clondalkin and Schools both Primary and Post-Primary

Services Offered:
The work of the Drug Education Programme is carried out through the Drug Education Co-ordinator and the School Drugs Worker. The focus of the work is both community and school based. A range of education / training programmes are provided to meet the following objectives:

  • Parents Programme: to raise awareness of the effects of addiction on the individual, the family and community through the delivery of a range of need based drug and health education programmes.
    Community Training Fund: to provide financial assistance to enable people living or working in Clondalkin to access short term courses and conferences related to addiction.
  • In-service Training Fund: to financially support staff of locally based projects with ‘at risk’ groups, to access further training with the aim of further developing their skills to support them in their role
  • Peer Education Training Programme: to raise awareness of the effects of addiction on the individual, family and community; and to train young people to deliver drug education to their peers
  • Supports / Services Available To Schools:
    • Peer Education Training Programme: as above
      School Drugs Policies: to facilitate and support all Primary and Post-Primary schools to develop a ‘Substance Use Policy’
    • Teachers Training: to develop resources and provide training that will support teachers in the implementation of the Substance Use Module of the Social Personal & Health Education Programme (SPHE)
    • School Drug Co-ordinators Committee: to develop organised links and networks with schools to facilitate schools in availing of training and resources

Target Group:
The Education Service addresses substance use through education and training
programmes with a particular focus on young people, and those who work with them in a variety of settings, both formal and in-formal, with community, voluntary & statutory agencies & organizations

Services Provided:

Adult Education and Training:

  • Key training programmes include the Substance Use Policy Resource and Training Pack for schools, in conjunction with Walk Tall Programme and SPHE Service, NUI Certificate in Addiction Studies for statutory, community and voluntary sector and Drug Education Policy and Practice for community and voluntary groups.

Health Promotion:

  • Informed by best practice relating to health promotion and broader educational principles Education Officers work closely with community and voluntary groups, local drugs task forces and the statutory sector to develop practical,
    effective responses to drug awareness and education.
